He played this year at SWSX and I wish I'd been there to see it. This performance is from the 2010 Crossroads festival. He reminds me a bit of Mem Shannon. By the end of this song, you'll "..well you gonna know my name." Oh, and check out his solo at about 3:40 in. Can you say Hendrix??

Let's talk about ranunculus
I just love 'em. Love their blowsey fullness, how they look like a poppy that has gotten a beehive hairdo. I just looked them up on Wiki and found that they are actually a part of the buttercup family - who knew? And the ones I'm the most smitten with are called Persian Buttercups. Go figure.
I think part of my love of ranunculus (besides saying the word which is really FUN) is that they remind me of some of those romantic romantic European flower painting by van Aelst, Jan Bruegel the Elder, Manet, Monet, you name it.

I admit it, I'm a Glass Junkie
The Museum of Glass (MOG) in Tacoma is one of the most remarkable places I've ever been to. It's located in downtown Tacoma, right on the Thea Foss Waterway. I am smitten with the architecture, the location, the exhibitions, the creativity of the curators and most of all with the Hot Shop staff. Every day the Museum is open, they have the Hot Shop running, with artists making glass. The big cone shape is the vent for the Hot Shop and the space inside it is amazing, a cathedral.
Above the glory holes they have big screens that display a live feed done by remote cameras, that give close ups on the action on the floor. They also project relevant videos about the visiting artists or the staff's work.In this photo Ben Cobb (Hot Shop Manager, Artist, and Lead Gaffer) is wearing my favorite MOG t-shirt that says "Nice Glass." He was working on pulling cane.
The last time I was in, Gabe Feenan (Gaffer and Artist) was working on creating pieces for visiting artist Dick Weiss.
My most favorite thing about Gabe's video is at the end - his creation of an homage to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Really.
The emcee last Sunday was Heather Cornelius whose welcoming enthusiasm makes the Q & A sessions fun. Heather is a ceramic artist, recently featured on exit133.com.
A stunning part of the museum is the Chihuly Bridge of glass, that spans the highway and railroad tracks and links the museum to the rest of downtown Tacoma.
I'm off to see a lecture on 19c. glass! Have a great week!
My Blackberry Is not Working!
For my adorable toaster headed children: Orange = large UK wireless provider. Dongle = refer to any small piece of hardware that plugs into a computer.
Enjoy!

Glamour Photography
The photos are of my Aunt Lolo, aka Lieselotte Schlösser Mann, probably taken in the late 40's in New York City by Marcus Blechman.
Ali and I discovered them whilst unpacking some boxes. We were both gobsmacked - me by the stylish beauty of my aunt, Ali by the exquisite skill of the photographer. Ali noticed the blind embossing on the bottom right hand corner of the photograph "Marcus Blechman New York N,Y." and rushed downstairs to Google the photographer, muttering under his breath "...back in the good old days... they did it right ... nothing matches film as a medium...."Hilariously, on of the links takes you to
1943 Autographed Gloria Swanson Photo - Marcus Blechman
"...a rare photograph of Gloria Swanson by reknowned entertainment photographer Marcus Blechman."
La Swanson has a dead dove perched on her head and is guilty of Appearing in Public With Lipstick Annexing Face Real Estate. It makes my aunt look like an absolute stunner. What is the appeal of Gloria Swanson, anyway? It always baffled me whenever I watched one of her films. I'm not even talking about the schlockfest of "Sunset Boulevard" which my university film professor adored. Most of the stuff she was in was mannered and barely watchable. Thanks to Wikipedia I did find one nice photo of her:
However, I think I'm more intrigued with the costuming and headband than anything else.

Priceless.
Canadian ER fee to diagnose severed 5th metacarpal tendon and stitch up two lacerations: $750 Canadian.
US outpatient surgery 2 days later to re-connect tendon: maybe $100 US.
Good friends Jane (on left), Len (in middle) and son Ali (third from right) driving me to ER in North Vancouver on my birthday in a snowstorm: PRICELESS.Also PRICELESS:
Same hand, 18 months apart. Left image, Kansas City. Right image, Tacoma. Evidently I hate my right pinky.
